“Imprint” Wins Best Narrative Feature at South Dakota Film Festival

tonantzin carmeloImprint,  the Native American supernatural thriller produced by Linn Productions and Chris Eyre in western South Dakota, received the Best Narrative Feature Award at the South Dakota Film Festival in Aberdeen this past weekend.

The movie is in its second week of screening in Rapid City, South Dakota, and over the weekend maintained a strong position at the box office, finishing ahead of Jodie Foster’s The Brave One  and Christian Bale’s 3:10 to Yuma. Imprint  will continue at the Rapid City venue for at least another week and half, and longer if strong attendance continues.

Openings are planned for October 5 at Carmike theatres in Aberdeen, SD; Sioux Falls, SD; North Platte, NE; and Scotts Bluff, NE.On October 19, Imprint  will open in Grand Forks, ND; Bismark, ND; and Sioux City, IA. Executive Producer Carolyn Linn hopes to place the movie in several more theatres in late 2007 and 2008.

Meanwhile, Imprint  continues to show at film festivals around the country, including the International Cherokee Film Festival in Oklahoma, Heard Museum Festival in Phoenix, the American Indian Film Festival in San Francisco, the Native Voice Film Festival in Denver, and the Tallgrass Festival in Wichita. The film will premiere in Canada at the Aboriginal Film Fest in Winnipeg.

Tonantzin Carmelo (Into the West) stars in the movie as Native American attorney Shayla Stonefeather, who prosecutes a Lakota teen in a controversial murder trial. When she returns home after the trial, strange visions and ghostly voices propel her on an unexpected journey. Though Shayla initially rejects a spiritual explanation for her experiences, she begins to uncover what she believes is a link between the visions and her brother’s disappearance two years earlier. Determined to get to the bottom of the mystery, Shayla deliberately confronts and follows the apparitions, leading her to a horrifying revelation and a purpose she could never have foreseen.

Michael Linn and Keith Davenport wrote the screenplay, Michael Linn directed, Marc Linn assistant directed, and Chris Eyre and Carolyn Linn produced the movie. Tonantzin Carmelo (Into the West), Carla-Rae Holland, Michael Spears (Into the West), and Cory Brusseau star in the movie.
