April 15th, 2007 by Marcel Petit

Thunder Bay's Courtney Jourdain has won the 2007 Aboriginal Icon title. The 20-year-old singer, originally from Lac La Croix First Nation, received the most votes Wednesday from viewers of the Aboriginal People's Television Network show, Contact.

The 2003 “Thunder Bay Idol” winner competed against two other young woman, one from Saskatchewan and one from Winnipeg . Jourdain performed a song which she wrote herself, “Let Go." The program’s three expert judges gave Jourdain rave reviews, and APTN viewers were invited to phone in or e-mail their votes during the one-hour program.

By winning the contest, Jourdain will have her song professionally recorded, and will be flown to Toronto next week to compete in the final auditions for CTV’s “Canadian Idol” program.

“This has definitely prepared me a lot,” Jourdain said of the “Aboriginal Icon” experience.
